A dystopic holiday jingle - I began working on this during the "holiday season" in the USA. "The muses have me" was my initial thinking, but then when someone overheard an early draft, they commented that the "cheerful" keyboard, countering the more dark and grim earlier aspects, sounded like a holiday jingle in style, though not any particular one.
Then I realized, without meaning to, I was expressing my conflict of emotions and experience of the holidays.
I try to be up beat during the holidays, but due to the darkness of that time of year, I am usually dragging and very down.
This piece expresses the dichotomy of feelings. Hope you enjoy, and would love to get feedback from listeners. How do you like the piece? Could you relate to the music and background related above? Or is that completely outside of your experience with the winter-centric holidays wherever you may be?
